The Monday/Tuesday class recently visited Cindy Vars at the Autumn Hill Alpacas farm to learn about how the animals are raised for their fiber. We got to meet and pet the animals and see how they live. We weren't able to see an alpaca be sheared (that doesn't happen until it gets warm) but we were shown many different types and colors of raw and treated fiber that can be used for felting. The students were shown how to dry and wet felt for their Tension/Second Skin assignment, which required them to weld a steel armature around which they were to wrap a "skin" material of their choice. See some of their projects for that assignment here.
