  1. Elisabeth Vanhouther’s piece named “ let me look in my purse” originally sitting on pedestal with a home made tablecloth like piece of fabric glued to it, and sitting on top of this tablecloth is two cement objects, which look somewhat like stars. There is a clear contrast between the fabric and the cement sculptural objects. The dimensions of the piece was about of the piece are 20’’x 15” the scale of the work makes the hardness of the two cement “star” a little less strong more tangible. I can see this conflict between the gender roles when looking at this piece. Simply by the material that have been used and the look of the piece in general. The objects do speak to a more decretive style while the cement they are made from looks at the ideals of working and useful engineering.
This piece in critique was not displayed along with the purse, which I felt there need to be something more. However there the purse that was picked and the other objects that we chosen to be placed in the cement random objects I also thing do not work they are somewhat confusing. The saying let me look in my purse makes me think of women asking other women for some kind of female product, and the piece that are coming out of the already not so famine purse do not meld well with the title of the piece. I also believe that the tools that are along with the cement objects take way from the casted object, they seem more interesting. Since the focus now of looking at this is on the tools I am confused at what this work might be trying to say.
